What is the private asset demo portfolio?

The private asset demo portfolio is an illustrative example of a portfolio consisting of select private asset investments that we pre-loaded for all of Venn’s users, and can be found in the Private Asset Data Library by searching for the “Demo Private Asset Portfolio” portfolio.

The purpose of the private asset demo portfolio is to provide an example of a private asset portfolio that can be set up on Venn. Users can also use this portfolio to start exploring the private asset analytics right away without having to worry about setting up their own portfolio.

Please see this article to learn how to upload private asset data and set up your own private asset portfolio.

How did you determine the demo portfolio’s composition?

We realize that investors’ objectives are unique and that portfolio compositions will vary. The demo portfolio therefore has multiple asset classes and strategies across geographies selected with the goal of best representing the diversified nature of institutional investors’ private asset portfolios. We selected the strategies based on our general understanding of common asset allocation for institutional investors.

How did you determine the demo portfolio's investments?

We chose a private asset fund from each vintage year from 2006 to 2022 such that the behavior of the portfolio can be captured through notable historical periods such as the Great Financial Crisis, Brexit, COVID, etc. The funds chosen are also managed by firms that we felt were well known and familiar to investors. Finally, we selected funds with ample historical cash flow data available such that the demo portfolio can be readily used to explore the cash flow pacing analytics.

The private asset demo portfolio has equal commitment of $20M to all funds.

Private asset portfolios are less liquid than public asset portfolios and have additional risks, including the risk of loss.

The demo portfolio is for demonstration purposes only. It is not a recommendation as to any portfolio, allocation, strategy, or investment or an offer to sell any security. The strategies, investments, and allocations in the demo portfolio were chosen in our professional judgment and from time to time can include current or prospective subscribers to Venn, which can present a conflict of interest. Notwithstanding such a conflict of interest, we believe the model portfolio represents an appropriate demonstration portfolio. No compensation was received by Venn from any manager based on a fund’s inclusion in the demo portfolio. Funds included in the demo portfolio do not follow any particular source, methodology, or data and should not be considered representative of the average institutional investor or indicative of any investment objective or approach.
